Quilling Magic {Charli AKA Charlotte}

Welcome graphic

I created this site for one purpose.  To inform people about the e-book Quilling Magic (also known as Quilling Success) and the fact that my name was used to promote this  product without my permission and updating the site to keep people informed.

Background:

I have been quilling for over 48 years and love quilling. Quilling (aka Paper Filigree) is the art of creating coils from strips of paper (either keeping them tight or allowing them to bloom) and then shaping them to create bits of beauty you can use to make pictures or grace cards, frames, furniture, boxes and other pieces of art. The beauty of coils is they can be made in a variety of colors, styles, and sizes and when combined are only limited by your sense of adventure. If you can think it you can quill it.

What Happened:

Last year I was approached by a person who said they were writing a Quilling book (Quilling Success) and wanted to know if we would share with him pictures of quilling from our customers. We declined but decided to buy the book for our Daughter-in-law who was learning to quill. The book was very poorly written and we asked for a refund which we got.

I started corresponding with the person (who I thought was a person named Chris Freville) and pointing out the problems with his/her quilling book. Much of the information in the e-book was wrong or difficult to read.

It also came to my attention that a number of the pictures and patterns he/she was "including" as part of the package were in fact not his/hers to use. Many were simply lifted from a variety of websites without permission. Eventually this issue was resolved and I thought no more about the product other then warning people to steer clear of it when asked.

Then a few months ago the book reappeared with a new author. I found this out because there was a link offering 20 free patterns if you clicked on the link. I filled out the form thinking I would be able to view these patterns. Imagine my surprise when it turned out that there were no free patterns unless I bought their book with turned out to be "Successful Quilling by Teresa Leys". Hmmmmm, I wondered, is this the same book? Then I read their disclaimer/legal jargon at http://www.quillingsuccess.com/purchaseagreement.htm  Now there are no refunds for any reason. So I decided not to waste almost $40 on something I could not return if it turned out to be junk. I wrote "Teresa Leys" an email asking if she was the same person as Chris Freville and about the "free 23 patterns". I didn't receive an answer (which didn't really surprise me) so I put the matter out of my mind.

Then a friend sent me an email informing me that she (and others she knew) had received a number of emails using my name to promote the following products:

The person selling the 1st 2 of these products goes under a variety of names including

  • Chris Johns
  • Chris Freville
  • Teresa Freville
  • Teresa Leys

I have NOT recommended and DO NOT recommend these 2 e-books.

As for the 3rd product,  I do not know anything about the "Sell Your Beads" e-course so can not comment on it but I would read their disclaimer at http://www.sellyourbeads.com/privacy.html before I bought anything.  I also find it strange that Teresa Leys is the author of the email saying that I am promoting this product (the Sell Your Beads) so I believe he/she is somehow involved in that venture too.   Also the websites are very similar.

NOTICE:  If you are thinking about buying either Quilling Success or Quilling Magic please read the following articles.  They are written by the same people who wrote the e-books and  reflect the quality of writing you can expect from the books.  In fact some of the articles are from the Quilling Success book (almost word for word as I remember).

WHAT I NEED FROM YOU:

If you've gotten an email that is promoting any of these or other product and the email says that the product is endorsed by Charli AKA Charlotte, or that I recommend the product, please email me at ggcharli@gmail.com.  Please do not destroy the emails.  If you can forward them with the headers attached that would be appreciated.

WHY I AM POSTING THIS:

I love quilling and a lot of quillers know me. I would hate to know that one of you spent your hard earned money on what I consider trash because you thought I recommended it. I also think it is wrong for people to use the reputation of other people to sell a product WITHOUT that persons permission. And I in NO MANNER gave them permission to use my personal tag (Charli AKA Charlotte).

And its not that I don't recommend products to others. I recommend products all the time and love doing it. But, they are products that I have used and I believe in.

Quilling Success (which I have read) and Quilling Magic (sight unseen) are not products I would recommend anyone buy because of my experience with the Quilling Success.

Is there anyway I would recommend the book? Yes even after they have used my name without my permission I would, if the book was indeed good and if the name of the author can be clarified.

But until that happens and I post it here, take any email that says I or for that fact any other quiller has recommended you buy their product and forward here so we can build a case against these people. If they use the name of another quiller, please be so kind as to forward that email to that quiller so that he or she will know someone is using their name.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU BOUGHT THE BOOK BASED ON AN EMAIL YOU GOT SAYING THAT I OR ANOTHER QUILLER RECOMMENDED IT?

Make sure you do not destroy the email. Then contact your Credit Card company and explain to them what has happened. Feel free to refer them to this site so they know the situation.

If you paid through paypal do the same thing. In either case I believe they will help you get your money back. I would also contact the CC processing agent for their site.

And if you'd like me to add your story here I would be more then happy to.

Good luck to all and Happy Quilling,

Charli (AKA Charlotte)
